Teeth Whitening at Chelmer Dental

How does it work?

Dental whitening is achieved by applying bleaching gel directly to the outer surfaces of your teeth. The types of gel most often used are hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide.

Is it safe?

For the safest and most predictable teeth whitening methods, the Australian Dental Association (ADA) recommends that it is carried out by a registered dentist.

You can also use custom-fitted trays made for you by your dentist. We use only TGA-approved products and the whitening procedure is carried out with the utmost of care.

The most commonly reported side effects of teeth whitening are temporary sensitivity and some gum irritation - however, we will usually supply you with relief gel and desensitising toothpaste to protect your teeth and gums throughout the process.

We offer 2 different whitening systems at Chelmer Dental:

ZOOM! In-Chair Professional Whitening vs “Take Home” Whitening

ZOOM! In-Chair Whitening:

The first option is “ZOOM! In-chair Whitening, which involves professional LED light-activated whitening in a 2-hour session in the dental chair.

The enhanced whitening is achieved through use of a high concentration of hydrogen peroxide which is safely applied to your enamel in a controlled environment.  The whitening result is immediate.

Our ZOOM! In-Chair Whitening treatment package also comes with complimentary custom-made bleaching trays for you to safely continue your whitening journey at home at a later date, if you feel the need to “top up” leading up to an important function or event.

“Take Home” Whitening:

The second option is “take home” whitening, which involves making a set of custom bleaching trays into which you must apply a whitening gel and wear for 30-45min (depending on the concentration of bleach) everyday for 2-3 weeks until the desired shade is achieved.

Your dentist will assess your teeth to determine which type of whitening gel will most effectively suit your needs.
